The small town of Hollywood, MD is located close to some of the best fishing spots in the Washington D.C. area, not far from bodies of water ranging between small ponds, large rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. If you are looking for a spot to catch some great specimens of bass, bluegill, or trout, check out the list of places we have made for anglers both amateur and experienced to enjoy a weekend of fun and excellent fishing opportunities.

  1. Greenwell State Park

With a total area of a little under 600 acres, the Greenwell State Park is the closest fishing spot to the center of Hollywood. This park was established in 1971, featuring a historic tobacco barns complex and attracting visitors from all over the state of Maryland wanting to learn more about the history of the area and practice outdoor activities including canoeing, swimming, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, hiking, cycling, and fishing.

The Greenwell State Park is located on the banks of the Patuxent River, just four miles east of downtown Hollywood. Getting here takes less than 10 minutes by car, driving along Vista Road and Steer Horn Neck Road. Visitors with Maryland state plates must pay $3, while out-of-state vehicles are charged a $5 fee. For anglers, some of the most common fish species living in the area include bass, catfish, bluefish, and chain pickerel.

  1. St. Mary’s River State Park

Located less than 15 miles away from Hollywood, the St. Mary’s River State Park is another excellent fishing destination that can be reached in about 20 minutes by car. This state park features an area of more than 2,500 acres, and although it was established in 1968, the lake was only finished in 1975. With several hiking trails and designated fishing areas, the park is popular among visitors from Washington D.C. and other nearby small towns.

The St. Mary’s River State Park is divided into two different bodies, separated by the Indian Bridge Road. The western part, surrounding Lake Saint Mary’s, is the best spot for anglers, as it features excellent designated fishing areas, as well as boat ramps. Some of the most commonly found species of fish living in the lake include sauger, channel catfish, yellow perch, bluegill, and walleye.

  1. Myrtle Point Park

With a territory of just 192 acres, the Myrtle Point Park is a small but great fishing spot for anglers from Hollywood and other urban areas in Maryland. Established in 1997, it features recreational facilities, including picnic tables, public grills, and portable restrooms, as well as designated fishing areas where anglers can find striped bass, catfish, bluefish, and pickerel. Getting here from Hollywood takes less than 15 minutes by car driving along route MD-235 S.
