Located in the southern portion of Maryland, the charming community of Hollywood offers plenty of exciting activities for everyone in the family to enjoy. The next time you’re looking to have some family fun in and around Hollywood, check out a few of these exciting ideas.

Local Farms

Hollywood is surrounded by scenic countryside with family-friendly farms that always seem to have something to enjoy. In the summer, head 16 miles west of Hollywood to Goldpetal Farms in Chaptico. This sunflower farm has pick-your-own flower gardens and intricate mazes that are a delight to explore. In the fall, travel about 11 miles west of Hollywood to Bowles Farms in Clements. This popular farm has a variety of fun activities, including a corn maze, pumpkin patch, wagon rides, barrel rides, barnyard petting zoo, and playground.

Greenwell State Park

If you’re interested in spending some time outside with your family, the 596-acre Greenwell State Park located on the Patuxent River is the perfect place to go. The park has 10 miles of marked trails open for year-round for hiking and bicycling. When it’s warm outside, the beach area is the ideal place to splash around and cool down. You can also launch a canoe or kayak from the beach area to explore the park by water. To make your day complete, pack a lunch to enjoy in the park’s picnic area.

Sotterley Historic Plantation

Sotterley Historic Plantation is a great place to visit in Hollywood to learn something new. You can head to the corn crib to see the Land, Lives, and Labor exhibit and get a view of life at the plantation from both enslaved and free workers. Stop by the one-room slave cabin that was constructed around 1830 to better understand the lives of the families who resided in these buildings. You can even step inside a 19th-century schoolhouse to see how young students once learned.

St. Mary’s River State Park

St. Mary’s River State Park is another beautiful outdoor destination near Hollywood. Located approximately 14 miles south of Hollywood, the park consists of two sites. Site one contains the 250-acre St. Mary’s Lake, and site two covers around 2,200 acres of mostly undeveloped land. One of the most popular trails in the park is the 7.5-mile multi-use trail that circles the lake. The lake is also a good spot for boating. If you like to fish, drop a line to see if you can snag largemouth bass, sunfish, crappie, and bluegill.

Calvert Marine Museum

Come to the Calvert Marine Museum to learn more about the unique history of the Chesapeake Bay. This fascinating museum is located just 9 miles over the Patuxent River in Solomons. In the Paleontology Gallery, you can learn about the prehistoric creatures that once swam where you now walk. You can then check out the Estuarine Biology Gallery to discover more about the diverse marine life found in the Chesapeake Bay.

No matter what type of family fun you’re interested in having, you know everyone will have a great time when you head to these top attractions around Hollywood.
