Just a few miles from Hollywood, Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby, Maryland, has over 1,000 acres preserved for hiking and appreciating nature. There are 13 miles of marked trails specifically for hiking. Since only foot traffic is allowed on the hiking trails, bikers and horseback riders can use the service road. If you want something easy and pet-friendly, try the red trail. It runs for about 1.5 miles and ends up at a small sandy beach. The orange trail is often less crowded since it doesn’t go to the beach and offers an interesting variety of terrain.

Head to Myrtle Point Park an take a hike along the loop trail. It runs for 2.5 miles around the perimeter of the park and is a moderate hike. The Deep Woods trail is a 2-mile hike that starts in the main parking lot and takes you through oak and holly trees.

Flag Ponds Nature Park has several trails. A half-mile trail will bring you from the parking lot to the beach, or you can take one of the longer trails that run through the park. There are even some observation decks at two of the ponds on the Chesapeake Bay.
