2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in Hollywood, MD
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a new addition to the lineup for 2023. This plug-in hybrid SUV will have unique hybrid badging on the front fenders and a charging port around the back on the rear fender to distinguish it from the gas-powered Outlander. This version of the Outlander might have a different powertrain and exterior look, but it's similar to the gas-powered version on the inside.
Trim Levels
The Outlander PHEV will come in three different trim levels. The ES will start the lineup with 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, LED headlights with washers, power-adjustable side mirrors, and rear privacy glass. A step up to the SE gets you 20-inch wheels, LED fog lights, power-folding and heated side exterior mirrors, a power liftgate, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Adding the SE Tech Package gets you a panoramic sunroof. The top-level SEL adds to this with roof rails and upgraded exterior trim, and it also offers the option for a panoramic sunroof.
Engine
This new Mitsubishi will get power from a plug-in hybrid system made up of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine and two electric motors. These combine to generate 248 horsepower and get 332 pound-feet of torque. It comes standard with Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control advanced-all-wheel-drive system and an Innovative Pedal that works like one-pedal driving. DC Fast charging is optional for some trims and standard with the SEL and will charge the battery up to 80% in just 38 minutes.
Performance
A 20-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery sits on the floor of the Outlander PHEV and feeds the electric motors. The hybrid powertrain is strong, and acceleration is quick and responsive. The all-wheel-drive system makes this SUV feel agile when taking tight corners and provides excellent traction over slippery roads. Drivers can choose from four driving modes: Normal, EV, Save, and Charge. The Outlander PHEV offers up to 38 miles of all-electric driving range in EV mode if you start with a full charge.
Interior
There are three rows of seats in the Outlander PHEV and room for up to seven people. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, a manually-adjustable driver's seat, a 50/50 split third row, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The SE adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, simulated leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and heated front seats. A 9-inch touch screen comes standard in the SE and up, along with satellite radio and wireless charging. The SEL adds two household-style power outlets and the option for a nine-speaker Bose stereo system.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Outlander PHEV comes with a full suite of advanced safety systems. These include forward collision warning with mitigation, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver attention monitor, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beam headlights. The SE adds a 360-degree surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and Mitsubishi's highway driving assist system that upgrades the lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control systems. An active blind-spot intervention system also comes with the SE. It automatically steers the Outlander back into its lane if you try to change lanes when someone is in your blind spot.
